We picked Mossy Creek on a warm afternoon because the whole trail stays under trees. Perfect for a border collie who runs hot and thinks every puddle is a personal swimming pool.

The path follows the creek the whole way. It's soft underfoot — lots of pine needles — and quiet enough that we only passed three other hikers. She spent ten solid minutes sniffing one mossy log. I let her. That's the whole point.

Parking lot fills up by 10am on weekends — we started at 7:30 and had it almost to ourselves
One wooden bridge, one rock-hop creek crossing (easy when the water's low)
Bug spray helped; the shady damp spots had a few mosquitoes
Water fountain at the trailhead — we filled both our bottles and her travel bowl

Verdict: an instant favorite. We'll come back after rain when the creek is louder and the moss looks even greener.
