Pine Ridge Overlook

Waypoint 1

Pine Ridge is the kind of hike that feels like a little adventure. The first mile is gentle, then the trail tilts up through tall pines and switchbacks. My border collie handled it like a champ — she kept checking on me, which was sweet and slightly embarrassing.

Waypoint 2

At the top there's a wooden bench facing rolling green hills. We sat for twenty minutes. She put her head on my knee. I almost cried. (Happy cry. Hike cry. You know the one.)

What to know

Waypoint 4

About 800 ft of elevation gain — bring water for both of you
Rocky in a few spots; her paw pads were fine but boots might help on hot days
No shade at the overlook — sunscreen and an early start recommended
Dogs allowed; we kept her leashed because of the drop-off near the bench

Waypoint 5

Harder than our usual walks, but the view made every uphill step worth it. She slept the entire drive home.
