The Cadair Side Path isn't the highest route in the area, but it might be the prettiest on a clear morning. The track climbs steadily through bracken and sheep-grazed grass, then opens onto a ridge where you can see layer after layer of green hills folding into the distance.

River treated the whole thing like a personal agility course — leaping over puddles, pausing every thirty seconds to scan the valley, then trotting ahead as if she were guiding an expedition. She is not, in fact, guiding an expedition. She is a border collie with opinions.
Waypoint 3
We stopped on a flat stone for water and biscuits. A pair of hikers with a spaniel passed us going down; River and the spaniel did the polite dog sniff, then immediately lost interest in opposite directions.

- Grassy path with a few rocky sections — fine in trainers, better with grippy soles if wet
- Exposed on the upper section; we were glad for hats and sunscreen
- No livestock issues the day we went, but gates and signs ask for dogs on lead near fields
- Parking is a small lay-by; arrive early on sunny weekends
Waypoint 6
We came down with wind in our hair and that satisfied tired-dog flop in the car. Worth it for the view alone.
